    ASTRA 1N 10.936 V SR 23.000 FEC 2/3 DVB-S2 QPSK HD
    ITV CENTRAL HD
    ITV MERIDIAN HD U02/06/13 at 23.00 –

“SES-Astra” satellite “SES-6” which will be placed at the 40.5 degrees west satellite position is scheduled for launch on the morning of June the 3rd (tomorrow morning) at 10.18 UK time/11.18 Central European time, “SES-6” launches from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on a “Proton-M/Briz-M” rocket launcher and upper stage combination, you can watch this “SES-6” satellite launch live in HD on the “SES-6 Launch” channel which is on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east frequency of 11.626 Vertical, Symbol Rate 22.000, FEC 2/3 DVB-S2 8PSK, the next launch which follows this launch which is of this same type and from this same facility is of course the “Astra 2E” satellite on July the 19th, this is the satellite we are all waiting for but while we are waiting we may as well look at the “SES-6” launch, this might go smoothly or it might not go smoothly, I do hope that it does go smoothly, “SES-Astra” could do with a break, they currently really do have a very tight schedule to adhere to, slip ups they could well do without

    Update 20/07/13 at 20.00 –

An Update on the “Proton-M” rocket crash and the now delayed/postponed “Astra 2E” satellite launch is that the first restarted launch from the “Baikonur Cosmodrome” will be in early September of 2013 with the preparations for said launch being carried out in August of 2013, the “ILS” (International Launch Services) own follow up “FROB” (Failure Review Oversight Board) investigation and review into the “Proton-M” crash should have been completed by the first week of August, the long awaited “Astra 2E” satellite was scheduled to be the next launch after this “Proton-M” rocket crash while carrying the three “Glosnass” satellites so based on the above information and if everything goes according to the information above then it is quite possible that the “Astra 2E” satellite will be launched in early September of 2013 and if it is the case that “Astra 2E” is launched in early September of 2013 then the expectation would be for “Astra 2E” to have been officially announced as operational and in service at the 28.2 degrees east satellite position by the End of October of 2013, as is normal with these things all this is subject to change of course   20/07/13 at 11.00 –

In December of 2013 German state broadcaster “ARD” launches High Definition (HD) versions of some of the remaining channels under it’s control that have not as yet launched in HD, from this date you will find on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east “Eins Festival HD”, “Eins Plus HD”, and “tagesshau24 HD” on 11.053 H and “hr fernsehen HD”, “RBB Berlin”, “RBB Brandenburg”, “MDR Sachsen”, “MDR Sachsen Anhalt”, and “MDR Thüringen” on 10.891 H, both of these frequencies will have the tuning parameters of SR 22.000, FEC 2/3 DVB-S2 8PSK, a further thing to note is that there are still the “SR Fernsehen” and “Radio Bremen TV”, and “BR Alpha” channels remaining without a known to us HD plan, there is no news on if or when HD versions of these channels will be appearing, these new HD channels will be a welcome addition to the existing multitude of currently available free to air “ARD” and “ZDF” HD channels, it is such a shame that unlike the German state HD channels which have gone for the free to air option that the German private channels have gone for the encrypted option. One thing further to add and based on this latest information is –

Can we assume/presume that the “Astra 1N” satellite will have been moved to the 19.2 degrees east satellite position by December of 2013 and that these latest HD channels will be broadcast from the Astra 1N satellite? It is possible that this will be the case! Please don’t forget to put a “link” back to “Rob’s Satellite TV” if you are using the information contained in this article or any other article on this website somewhere else, be that on a forum or on another website   20/07/13 at 11.00 –

It is not often that I praise the “European Court” but praise be to them for dismissing an appeal brought by “FIFA” and “UEFA” and upholding a previous European Court ruling that the UK can continue to have the football “World Cup” and “European Championships” as “Protected Events” that should and will be free to air to UK viewers, and naturally the reason for the “FIFA” and “UEFA” appeal was so they could sell these events to the highest bidder which of course would have been a “Pay TV” company and then they would have sold off the remains and highlights packages to the free to air channels, all hail the “European Court” for standing up to football’s ruining bodies that are “Blatter” and “Platini”

    Update 20/07/13 at 11.00 –

I have told you before about “Perspolis TV” on 11.317 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east, this testing channel is now showing some short documentary type programming, it is still a testing channel though because these programmes are on a loop, i.e. it is the same stuff that is being shown repeatedly

    Update 18/07/13 at 17.00 –
    An
Update on the “Proton-M” rocket crash of the 2nd of July, 2013 which because of this has put an indefinite  delay on the “Astra 2E” satellite launch, the “Russian Federal Space Agency” (Roscosmos) have said that “the space rocket’s failed launch was due to an error during installation of three yaw-axis angular rate sensors on the Proton-M rocket”, read the full article HERE , also said was that “the commission determined that the liftoff switch was activated 0.4 seconds before the rocket actually separated from the launch pad”, the investigation by the commission continues because they will need to determine exactly why there was a premature “lift off” when there should not have been, this continuation of the investigation means that there will be and still is no further news on when “Proton-M” rocket launches from the “Baikonur Cosmodrome” in Kazakhstan will resume, this in turn means that we are still no clearer as to when the “Astra 2E” satellite will be launched, launches are still postponed   17/07/13 at 22.00 –
English football’s “FA Cup” is coming home to the UK’s “BBC”, in a four year shared rights deal with “BT Sport” both broadcasters from the start of the 2014/15 “competition will show the “FA Cup” live and also as highlights, the “BBC” will show matches on their “BBC 1” channel but it has not yet been announced how many games the “BBC” will show live, also “BBC Radio 5 Live” has continued coverage of the “FA Cup” until 2018, very good news indeed, no one does it like the “BBC”, except when they have “Jonathan Pearce” as a commentator in which case I will be tuning into “BBC Radio 5 Live” for my commentary, I cannot stand that bloke’s commentary even when I am sitting down!

    Update 17/07/13 at 18.30 –
And they finally officially launched, Israeli news channel “I24 News” the English, French, and Arabic language news channel from Israel is now on air but it is not after all a three language time share channel, it is in fact three separate channels for the three separate languages, “I24 News English” is available on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east frequency of 11.470 V, SR 27.500, FEC 5/6, “I24 News Arabic” is available on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east frequency of 11.470 V, SR 27.500, FEC 5/6, and “I24 News French” is available on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east frequency of 11.067 V, SR 22.000, FEC 5/6, all these channels are broadcast free to air, I do find it a little strange though that they did not also put the English language version on 19.2 degrees east and the French language version is on 13 degrees east but at least they are up and running and I am sure that viewers who are interested in all things Israeli will welcome “I24 News” as another source of Israeli news alongside the existing Hotbird 13 degrees east 11.034 V “Jewish News One”   17/07/13 at 11.00 –
There is a channel label that has appeared on the 10.815 H, SR 27.500, FEC 5/6 on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east, this channel is named as “TVK”, there is currently no video or audio assigned to this channel, here’s hoping that it is the Greek “ERT” (or “EDT” as it now is) returning to this frequency after it was removed so abruptly, somehow though with a channel name like this “TVK” label I think it will be a different channel here   17/07/13 at 11.00 –
The two encrypted testing channels on 11.469 H, SR 27.500, FEC 2/3 on the Eutelsat 28A satellite at 28.5 degrees east now have some sort of EPG information, the channel named/numbered as “1451” currently has “Test Event TK” and “Gap 1.5 Hr” information and the channel named/numbered as “4200” currently has “Programmes Start at …….” at 2 hourly intervals, as I said, these both of channels are encrypted so it would seem to be that some existing encrypted channels which are on other frequencies will be moved to this frequency   17/07/13 at 08.30 –
You may remember the classic 1978 hit song “Blame it on the Boogie” by “The Jacksons”, you know the one, it goes “Sunshine, Moonlight, Good Times, Boogie”, it would appear that there is someone at the “MagicStar Digitaradio” television channel on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east who does not remember this song at all, this person thinks the song is called “Blame it on the Buggy”! Yes, really! You could not make it up could you! I know that the 1970’s saw some of us with “Rose Royce” at the “Car Wash” but I don’t ever remember “The Jacksons” telling us to “Blame it on the Buggy”! See the screenshot below! LOL!

    Update 17/07/13 at 08.30 –
    A further
Update on the Astra 19.2 degrees east 12.344 H frequency developments is that I am reliably informed that “NL Radio’s 1, 2, 3FM, 4, 5, and 6” will be starting on the 11.023 H frequency on the 1st of August, 2013, also
Updated information on the 12.344 H “TLC” and “Eurosport” channels is that they have now begun broadcasting on the 23.5 degrees east Astra satellite, one think I did forget about was the three private Dutch radio channels on 12.344 H, “Radio 538”, “Radio 10 Gold”, and “Slam FM”, these should also be moved to 11.023 H and/or be moved to the Astra 23.5 degrees east satellite position, all this activity is “Canal Digitaal Netherlands” and “Mobistar” initiated activity for sure Here are the “Mobistar” Infocards on 12.721 H, 19.2 degrees east   17/07/13 at 08.30 –
German childrens channel “RiC TV” is no longer 24 hours a day for children, the evening programme schedule now consists of “Shop 24 Direct” Schlager and Volks music commercial programmes between 1930 and 0130 German time, so by the reckoning of “RiC TV” the children cannot watch the kids programming during the evening after they have come home after playing outside but they can watch the kids programming all night after their parents have gone to bed! “RiC TV” is free to air on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east frequency of 12.692 H, SR 22.000, FEC 5/6   17/07/13 at 08.30 –
“Arise News” on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite has now changed frequency, it is now only broadcasting on 11.117 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4, it has now been removed from 11.623 V

    Update 16/07/13 at 19.30 –
A little later than they originally planned but Israeli news channel “I24 News” will officially launch tomorrow the 17th of July at 1700 GMT/UTC, 1800 UK time, 1900 Central European time, “I24 News” is an English, French, and Arabic language news channel from Israel, no doubt his will be done in shared different language blocks/segments similar to what Germany’s “DW-TV” does with the German and English language shared broadcasts, “I24 News” is available free to air on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east frequency of 11.067 V, SR 22.000, FEC 5/6 and on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east frequency of 11.470 V, SR 27.500, FEC 5/6

    Update 16/07/13 at 11.00 –
On the 3rd of July of this year I told you about my feeling that the 12.344 H frequency on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east was going to be cleared of all it’s encrypted Dutch/Flemish channels (see 03/07/13 for the full article), it would appear that I am right again, duplications/simulcasts of “RTL 4”, “RTL 5”, “RTL 7”, and “RTL 8” have already appeared on 12.515 H, duplications/simulcasts of “NGC” (National Geographic), “Planet”, “Hustler TV”, and “Dorcel TV” have already appeared on 12.721 H, further developments today are that the “Discovery”, “Veronica/Disney XD” television channels and the “RTL Radio”, and “RTL 1440” radio channels have now appeared on 11.023 H, all these developments means that the only channels left on 12.344 H which have not as yet been duplicated/simulcast on another frequency of completely removed are the “TLC”, “Animax”, and “Eurosport” television channels and the “NL Radio’s 1, 2, 3FM, 4, 5, and 6” we can expect these remaining 12.344 H channels to be duplicated/simulcast on another frequency very soon and the most likely frequency for these remaining channels could be 11.023 H, there is lots more room on that particular frequency, as I previously alluded to in my 3rd of July piece, these 12.344 H moves/changes could in part be as a result of the Belgian service “Mobistar” stopping it’s Digital TV service at the end of 2013 and instead as of the 15th of September, 2013 they will be offering their French speaking customers a link to “Telesat” and offering their Dutch speaking customers a link to “TV Vlaanderen”, the omens are most certainly there. “Rob’s Satellite TV”, Always on the right page!   16/07/13 at 10.30 –
We knew they would be coming but now we have the official confirmation, the UK’s “BBC” have announced that the “BBC News”, “BBC Three”, “BBC Four”, CBBC”, and “CBeebies” channels will also be available in High Definition (HD) from early 2014, these HD variants of the currently available Standard Definition (SD) channels will be broadcast free to air and will be available of all UK platforms, also announced was that the “BBC” will withing the next six months the “BBC” will put forward a proposal to the “BBC Trust” outlining the technical options and a timetable for launches of HD versions of “BBC 2 Scotland”, “BBC 2 Wales”, “BBC 2 Northern Ireland”, and also England Specific Regional Versions of “BBC 1 HD”, good news indeed from the “BBC”, more to come on this   15/07/13 at 22.00 –
The Wales Rugby team’s home autumn tests will be shown live on the “BBC” for the next four years following a deal between the “Welsh Rugby Union” and the “BBC”, this deal will last until 2018   15/07/13 at 22.00 –
“Al Jazeera Sport” has won the Middle East and North Africa broadcasting rights to English football’s “Premier League”, these rights are for all 380 matches every season and it is from the 2013/14 season to the 2015/16 season, what does this mean for the “Al Jazeera Sport” channels, well the rumour is that the subscription prices will most definitely go up and that there will be new receivers which will make it more difficult to receive the “Premier League” outside the target areas, you can also bet your bottom dollar that something will have been said in the meetings between the two parties regarding the currently very, very easy ways of obtaining and viewing “Al Jazeera Sport”, me thinks that the English “Premier League” on “Al Jazeera Sport” will be confined only to the 26 degrees east and 7 degrees west satellites, there is a possibility that it will not be shown on the 13 degrees east and 3 degrees east satellites, this needs a little more investigation   15/07/13 at 22.00 –
“Persian Movie” which looks like the follow up channel to the previously removed “Persian Film” has appeared on 11.804 H, Symbol Rate 27.500, FEC 5/6 on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east, The conttnet seems to be US movies and series, currently showing is an american film dubbed into Persian/Farsi but it might be worth checking out for some English language movies and series too such as the other “Hotbird Iran Channels” as I call them   15/07/13 at 16.30 –
A new Russian channel is testing on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east frequency of 11.585 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4, this channel is called “Safo TV”, there is video and audio on this channel but currently the audio is silent   15/07/13 at 16.30 –
A frequency change to report on the Eutelsat 28A satellite at 28.5 degrees east is that African channel “BEN” is now broadcasting on 12.643 H, SR 27.500, FEC 2/3, this channel is no longer broadcasting on 11.259 V

    Update 15/07/13 at 16.30 –
The “Eurosport 2 International” channels in SD and HD on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east that I told you about yesterday have now been encrypted, they are no longer broadcasting free to air   14/07/13 at 11.30 –
“Eurosport 2 International” is currently free to air on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east, both the SD and HD versions of this channel are free to air and the respective frequencies are 11.242 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 and 11.258 H, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 DVB-S2 8PSK respectively, how long “Eurosport 2 International” will be free to air for is anyone’s guess but one thing is for certain, it is only temporarily free to air

    Update 13/07/13 at 09.30 –
    An
Update regarding the investigations into the cause of the “Proton” rocket crash of the 2nd of July, 2013 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, apparently the “Russian State Commission” inquiry is still ongoing but is expected to be completed by the end of July, following this completion the expectation is that the “ILS” (International Launch Services) own “FROB” (Failure Review Oversight Board) investigation and review will begin in early/mid August, of course all this is relevant regarding the delayed “Astra 2E” satellite launch and in light of this latest information it is looking increasingly likely that it will be a September launch for the “Astra 2E” satellite   12/07/13 at 19.00 –
I am sure that we are all enjoying this very hot and sunny weather at the moment but where will be the best place to be for the best weather tomorrow (or today depending on when you are reading this!), judging by tonight’s weather forecast on “BBC 1 Wales” that best place would seem to be North West Wales where the temperature is going to be a staggering (and perishing!) 88 would you believe, yes 88, not 88 fahrenheit but 88 celsius! LOL! See the screenshot if you don’t believe me! LOL! NJOY!

    Update 12/07/13 at 17.00 –
    A further, further
Update on the Greek “ERT” now “EDT” situation that I have been telling you about, I am reliably informed by one of my members that the “new” Greek state broadcast channel “EDT” is broadcasting on the Eutelsat 3D satellite at 3.1 degrees east frequency of 12.715 H, SR 18.907, FEC 2/3 DVB-S2 QPSK , there is still no sign of “EDT” beginning to broadcast on the old Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degreesfrequency of the previous “ERT” channel’s satellite frequency as yet though, maybe the Greek government do’n t want the “Eurozone” countries to know what is going on there regarding the austerity and all that ! LOL!

    Update 11/07/13 at 17.30 –
Two of the extra “BBC Red Button” channels which were started because of the so called “BBC Summer of Sport” have now ceased broadcasting, “54380” (BBC Red Button 2) and “54381” (BBC Red Button 3) on 12.643 V ont eh Eutelsat 28A satellite at 28.5 degrees east have now been removed, so that was the Summer of the BBC then was it, all over by the second week of July! The “6390” (BBC Red Button 1) and “8900” (BBC Red Button HD) channels are still broadcasting   11/07/13 at 17.30 –
“Armenia TV” has changed frequency on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east, it is now broadcasting on 10.815 H, SR 27.500, FEC 5/6, this channel is no longer broadcast on 11.178 H

    Update 11/07/13 at 17.30 –
Some good news for my readers who are either resident in France or holidaying in France, “SES-Astra” and it’s long-standing partner “NordNet” have announced an expansion service, “Nordnet” has developed a new on-demand satellite broadband offering for which it contracted additional Ka-band capacity on the Astra 2F satellite, the solution, based on SES Broadband Services’ technology offers download speeds of up to 20 Mbit/s for second residences and holiday homes in France and it is marketed in France, seems like a good solution for any of you who are in the remoter parts of France, read the full article HERE
    Update 11/07/13 at 17.30 –
    A further
Update on the Greek “ERT” situation, you may remember what I told you yesterday regarding this, it now appears that a “new” Greek state broadcaster is broadcasting under the name “EDT” on the same frequencies as the closed down “ERT”, this channel is a temporary channel solution until the main “ERT” replacement channels can be fully set up, I have not seen this “EDT” channel appearing on the previous “ERT” satellite frequencies yet though   10/07/13 at 20.30 –
Some German free to air football news is that German commercial broadcaster “RTL” has secured the broadcast rights for the German football team’s qualifying matches for the European Championships of 2016 and the World Cup of 2018, these qualifying rights have for what seems forever been the rights of “ARD” and “ZDF”, the actual real business of the after everyone has qualified final stages of the European Championship of 2016 and World Cup of 2018 will still be broadcast by “ARD” and “ZDF”, the only downside that I can see with “RTL” now having these qualifying matches is that “RTL” does not broadcast free to air in “HD”, it broadcasts free to air only in “SD”, this unlike the “ARD” and “ZDF” channels which broadcast free to air in both “HD” and “SD”
    Update 10/07/13 at 20.30 –
    An
Update on the Greek “ERT” situation, you may remember that the Greek Government closed down the Greek State broadcaster “ERT”, there are now reports that the Greek State broadcasting of television and radio will recommence tomorrow (Thursday) under the same name as before
    Update 10/07/13 at 19.30 –
Regarding the “Proton” rocket crash of the 2nd of July, 2013 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan all of the people associated with the “Astra 2E” satellite launch were in a safe area and no harm came to any of them, also there were no injuries or casualities either Russian or Kazakhstani, the now delayed “Astra 2E” satellite has been put unfuelled in temporary storage and most of the “Astra 2E” associated people have left the Baikonur Cosmodrome on the 5th of July, 2013, they will only return when the investigations are completed into the cause of the “Proton” rocket crash and the remedies/solutions have been implemented. Following the “Proton” rocket crash no damage was caused to launch pad 24 or launch pad 39, “Astra 2E” was scheduled to be launched from launch pad 39. The “Russian State Commission” will investigate the cause of this “Proton” rocket failure/crash, following their report, findings, and suggested remedy “ILS” (International Launch Services) will conduct their own “FROB” (Failure Review Oversight Board) which will review the “Russian State Commissions” report, findings, and suggested remedy, this “FROB” investigation would possibly not begin until Late July/Early August, obviously there will be no launches and more specifically there will be no “Astra 2E” launch until the “Russian State Commission” and the “FROB” have completed their investigations and the suggested remedies have been put in place, at a guess I think that the very earliest date that “Astra 2E” could now possibly be launched would be in Late August, 2013 but they would even be pushing it to even meet that date
Update 10/07/13 at 17.00 - The “SES-Astra” website now says “TBC” (To Be Confirmed) for the “Astra 2E” satellite launch date
    Update 10/07/13 at 08.00 –
I did say that we would be getting news very soon and so it comes to pass, according to Russian media the 2nd of July, 2013 “Proton” rocket crash at Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan was caused by human error and I quote “The angular velocity sensors were wired up with the wrong polarity therefore the rocket was orientated incorrectly”, do I hear everyone shouting out all at once “It was the Vodka drinking Russian wot dun it Guv”! LOL! This man should be on his way to Siberia as we speak! LOL! We await further developments with earnest   09/07/13 at 19.00 –
My “Arte in English” page has had an
Update and again now has listings of the English language content that is coming up on the “Arte France” channel, see HERE
    Update 09/07/13 at 19.00 –
“AAA Family” which is on screen pronounced as “Triple A Family” now has full programming and it is very good news for the English language programming seekers such as myself because “AAA Family” broadcasts many US and UK films in English but also noted have been the US series’ “Supernatural” and “The Client List” which are also broadcast in the original English language, unlike the other current “Hotbird Iran Channels” whose picture and audio quality leaves a little to be desired the “AAA Family” picture and audio quality is excellent, I have found no programme schedule for this channel but I have observed that programmes are repeated during the 24 hour day and it would seem from my observations that “AAA Family” are running a 6 hour programme strand which means that if you happen on a film or show that you would like to watch but you have missed the beginning of it then it should theoretically be shown again within the next 5 or 6 hours, it really is a shame that these “Hotbird Iran Channels” do not have programme schedule information or any form of EPG programme information, for channels such as this a PVR satellite receiver is of much value and use, personally when I am not watching television or listening to the radio I leave my PVR on record for hours on end on these “Hotbird Iran Channels” and then edit the contents for viewing later, “AAA Family” is on 11.642 H, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east. Can anyone tell me what series of “Supernatural” and “The Client List” are currently being shown on “AAA Family”?
    Update 09/07/13 at 19.00 –
“Perspolis TV” which is another testing channel which I am hoping will be another one of the what I like to call “Hotbird Iran Channels” which are Persian channels that show some programming in the English language is now broadcasting a looped promotion video and audio and I must say that “Perspolis TV” is looking very promising from the trailer that is showing, “Perspolis TV” is on 11.317 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east
    Update 09/07/13 at 19.00 –
The UK’s “Sky” broadcaster has the following on the 3D or not 3D situation, “BSkyB has reasserted its commitment to 3D programming, particularly focusing on big events, as a number of broadcasters including the BBC turn their back on the technology.”. OK, that is that then!

I see that the UK’s public broadcaster “BBC” is stopping “3D” production, well for three years apparently but they would say that now and no doubt sometime during the latter stages of the three years we will be told it will be stopping permanently, this decision by the “BBC” is due to low viewer take up of this technology of “3D”, this is not really a surprise now is it, how many times has “3D” been launched in a hail of balloons and disastrously failed in a hail of fail since the 1950’s, it really beggars belief the amount of money that has been wasted yet again on “3D” technology, even some of the television set manufacturers have gone off the idea of “3D”, when will they all learn, we could have told you that it would not last and would not work, a large percentage of the world’s population will never get “3D” even if they have the best “3D” television in the world and the biggest satellite dish ever produced because they have not got 20/20 vision, talk about a technology that was designed to alienates viewers! We could have told you that this would happen and we did that so! And thanks to the above photo we now know what “Number 5” has been doing since he left the movies, all hail, “Number 5” is alive, hurrah, hurrah, he has not met his maker after all! See HERE

“EuropaSat” will market the “SES-Astra” satellite broadband service “SES-Broadband” in the UK and Europe, this service uses Ka-band capacity on the “Astra 2F satellite at the 28.2 degrees east satellite position, this capacity will be further extended after the launch of “Astra 2E”, The “Astra 2E” satellite when it eventually gets launched and arrives at 28.2 degrees east will provide internet via satellite with download speeds of up to 20 Mbit/s to end consumers from it’s 3 wideband Ka-band transponders, you can read the full article HERE

“SES-Astra” have signed a collabarotion agreement with “SSI-Monaco” (Space Systems International Monaco) for the development and use of the 52 degrees East Monaco orbital position, “SSI” are responsible for the realization of the “MonacoSat” satellite project and signed a set of agreements with the “Turkmenistan Ministry of Communications” in relation to the use of the 52 degrees east satellite position and included the right for “SSI” to use 12 Ku-band transponders on the “TurkmenSpace” satellite, the satellite will be launched in late 2014/early 2015. So that is why the “Astra 1H” satellite was moved from the 19.2 degrees east satellite position to the 52.0 degrees east satellite position, well that as well as to make room at 19.2 degrees east for the eventual arrival of “Astra 1N”, “Astra 1H” must be keeping 52 degrees east safe and sound, basically housekeeping before the new tenant arrives, “Astra 1H” could be at 52 degrees east until 2015 but of I am sure that “SES-Astra” will find a use for during the meantime, the full article is HERE

I told you it would not be long before we started getting some news, apparently an “Early Launch” is being said as one of the likely causes of the “Proton “rocket crash of the 2nd of July, 2013 which has put such a probabledelay on the “Astra 2E” satellite launch, so it could have been an “Early Start”, we have all been waiting so long for “Astra 2E” that I would have thought that an “Early Start”would have been nigh on impossible, it is now! LOL! Also regarding this launch I just love what has been posted on some of the official websites, “ILS” (International Launch Services) following the “Proton” crash put “The rocket veered off it’s flight path and returned to earth”! It probably forgot it’s passport, if that is returning to earth then I am dreading the next time my wife falls of my rocket! LOL! Also this is was on the “Facebook” page of “SES-Astra” and I quote “Astra 2E landed this week at it’s launch location”! OK that was posted on the 28th of June, 2013 before the accident but a nice chooice of words nonetheless, it does make me wonder if “SES-Astra” have got a “Crystal Ball” just like mine though!   05/07/13 at 15.00 –
Some interesting music concerts to come on German TV that may be of interest to you are as follows :- all are UK times, “MDR” tonight at 2100 has “Bruce Springsteen”, at 2230 has “Joe Cocker”, and at 0000 has “Carlos Santana”, also “Eins Festival” has a 1980 “Rockpalast” with”The Police” at 0205 on Sunday Morning and “RBB” at 1915 on Sunday has “The Helen Fischer Show”, all of the above are good concerts to watch, I have seen some of them already and I could tell you a little story about “The Police” one but not today! LOL!   05/07/13 at 15.00 –
I have just found out that the French international channel “TV5 Monde” has discontinued it’s “Teletext” service, all that now remains are information pages that say that the service was stopped from the 19th of June, 2013 and that the French language subtitles in standard from are still available on “TV5 Monde Europe” on page 891 and on “TV5 Monde FBS” on page 888, the English language subtitle in standard form on”TV5 Monde Europe” are still available on page 892, please be advised that I have the tested the “TV5 Monde Europe” and the “TV5 Monde FBS” with these analogue subtitles and they are still working fine except for the teletext and French subtitle page on “TV5 Monde FBS” on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east is a little tempremental, sometimes it appears, sometimes it does not, and this happens on more than one receiver so it could be a problem at the “TV5 Monde FBS” end and not your receiver end, as I said, there is no problem whatsoever with the English subtitles on “TV5 Monde Europe” and of course the digital DVB multi language subtitles on “TV5 Monde” are not affected by any of these teletext changes

I can now confirm that all frequencies and channels have in fact as I suspected been transferred from the Eutelsat Hotbird 13A satellite frequenciesto the Eutelsat Hotbird 13D (ex 3C) satellite, this has happened, I now have indeed received correspondence from the outlying areas of the Hotbird reception area that I asked to contact me, they have confirmed that there have been channel losses at their locations, it’s not often I am wrong but I am right again! LOL!
    Update 04/07/13 at 20.30 –
I am still of the opinion that there has been some if not all transfer of the Eutelsat Hotbird 13A satellite frequencies and channels to the Eutelsat Hotbird 13D (ex 3C) satellite has occurred, I posted the following at ten o clock this morniing :- “I have not been able to confirm the following information but my suspicions are that the 13 degrees east frequency of 11.623 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 could have been moved from Eutelsat 13A to Eutelsat 13D, there was something being done with this frequency in the early hours of this morning and it is possible that what I am suspecting has actually happened, for your reference and checking purposes 11.623 V broadcasts the free to air channels “Arte France” in MPEG4, “RTL 102.5” the Italian music channel, and “TV Romania International, also on this frequency is the “RTG TV” which is the Russian Travel Guide channel which is currently free to air but it could be encrypted at any time because this channel is not always free to air, there are some other not so interesting channels on this frequency too but they are not worth listing, as I said, my suspicions are that the frequency 11623 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 and all the channels on that frequency has vbeen moved from Eutelsat Hotbird 13A to Eutelsat Hotbird 13D (ex 3C) at the 13 degrees east satellite position, your reception reports of this frequency are most welcome from Pakistan and other countries on the edges of the Eutelsat Hotbird 13 degrees east satellite signals and please do remember where you read it first” As I said, i ahve not been able to confirmt aht this transfer ahs occurred but what I observed on the 11.623 V frequency in the early hours of this morning has all the hallmarks of a frequency being changed to another satellite, some other frequencies were checked and they seemed to be in order but it could be that these other frequencies that I cheack had already been changed or had not yet been changed when I checked, in light of what I observed I am of the opinion that Eutelsat Hotbird 13A has been emptied of all it’s frequencies, all have been transferred to Eutelsat Hotbird 13D, now I am not going to list every single frequency and channels but some free to air channels of interest which I am now assuming are on Eutelsat 13D are “Thai Global Network”, “BBC World News”, “Rai’s 1, 2, and 3”, “ZDF”, “RTL CH”, “RTL 2 CH”, “ARTE France”, “TV 5 Monde”, and many of the English language news channels, do please let me know if you notice any signal changes on these channels, you read it first as ever at “Rob’s Satellite TV”

    Astra 2E launch delay –
Whilst it is a definite that the launch of the “Astra 2E” satellite will be delayed the big question is how long will this delay last for, it is currently unknown because we are in the very early stages of investigations into the cause following the “Proton” rocket crash of the 2nd of July but it would seem that “ILS” (International Launch Services) are implying that all is not as bad as it seems, we will reserve judgement on that one, they say that damage was very minimal at “Baikonur”, they also say that the “Proton” rocket that crashed is a different to the one used for the main satellite launches such as “Astra 2E” and I presume that what they are really implying is basically that the other “Astra 2E” rocket is and wouldbe OK so let’s back to it and let’s get on with it, now “ILS” being a commercial company would want launches to recommence as soon as possible and even yesterday but what is also said is that the “Proton” rockets’ first engines are basically the same, we all saw the rocket crash and after seeing those crash pictures I am sure that we are all of the same train of thought that the problem could and is possibly a first engine problem, it basically only just left the ground and very swiftly returned to earth, “Returned to Earth” are the words of “ILS” not me, using this logic if someone is in a train crash would the official statement say something like “The Train arrived at a Different Destination” or if there was a car crash would an official statement say “The Car has stopped to go to the Garage”! LOL! So, back on subject, there are investigation underway into the cause of this “Proton” crash, personally i do not think it is going to be too long before they find out a general cause of the accident and issue a statement of clarity to, it is all public relations exercises, they will not stay silent, we will get word, and then following this they would then have narrowed it down to a specific part of the equipment which will then be thoroughly checked, obviously the”Baikonur Cosmodrome” needs a thorough clean up but that is not too difficult a thing to do, but my anticipation is that we will not have to wait to long for clarification regarding whether launches will resume or will indeed be delayed for the two or three months currently anticipated, it all depends on what and where the crashed “Proton”rocket’s problems were, give it a week or two and we should all be further clarified and enlightened regarding where “Astra 2E” stands!   04/07/13 at 19.30 –

Some possible bad news for “Rob”? “Spotter” have  developed an analytics tool that can identify “Sarcasm” and that there are some very high profile “officialdom” clients already signed up for it, now the only thing that worries me about this is that “officialdom” are going to be using it which and in light of the recent “bugging” allegations made against various states makes me a little worried, they are already looking at your electronic communications but it is a centuries old problem regarding comedy and sarcasm, where will they draw he line with this, one persons comedy and sarcasm is not another mans comedy and sarcasm, that is the only thing that worries me with this tool and who will be using this tool, it will not affect the “witticisms” and the other light hearted stuff that I post on the website, those are in a league of their own! LOL!   04/07/13 at 19.30 –
It would seem that pretty soon in the future there is going to be no escaping the influence of “Uncle Rupert” (Sky) or having a non disturbed sleep whilst on a long train journey, apparently under the instruction of “Sky Deutschalnd” a German advertising company has developed a system where adverts can be transmitted from train windows when you lean on them, yes really, if this is comes to fruition then we can expect that it will soon be rolled out Worldwide following it’s introduction and success in Germany, now the moral of this story is to go by bus but if you do have to go by train then be sure and book an ailse seat! A new channel has appeared on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east called “Star TV”, frequency details are 11.242 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4, this channel is currently showing a looped video and audio promo, it is seemingly a UK based channel for the global Somali community, please note that this is not the same channel as the Hotbird “Stars TV” on 10.911 V

    A 13 degrees east
Update on this soon awaited transfer of the Eutelsat Hotbird 13A satellite frequencies and channels to the Eutelsat Hotbird 13D (ex 3C) satellite, I have not been able to confirm the following information but my suspicions are that the 13 degrees east frequency of 11.623 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 could have been moved from Eutelsat 13A to Eutelsat 13D, there was something being done with this frequency in the early hours of this morning and it is possible that what I am suspecting has actually happened, for your reference and checking purposes 11.623 V broadcasts the free to air channels “Arte France” in MPEG4, “RTL 102.5” the Italian music channel, and “TV Romania International, also on this frequency is the “RTG TV” which is the Russian Travel Guide channel which is currently free to air but it could be encrypted at any time because this channel is not always free to air, there are some other not so interesting channels on this frequency too but they are not worth listing, as I said, my suspicions are that the frequency 11623 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 and all the channels on that frequency has been moved from Eutelsat Hotbird 13A to Eutelsat Hotbird 13D (ex 3C) at the 13 degrees east satellite position, your reception reports of this frequency are most welcome from Pakistan and other countries on the edges of the Eutelsat Hotbird 13 degrees east satellite signals and please do remember where you read it first!

    Update 03/07/13 at 20.00 –
It’s Hotter than July! I recently said about July seeing some changes at the Eutelsat Hotbird 13 degrees east satellite position because of some latest developments at another of Eutelsat’s satellite positions, to use Eutelsat’s own words “The entry into service of Eutelsat 3D at the 3 degrees east satellite position enables Eutelsat to initiate enhancements to its fleet that will bring higher in-orbit security and increased capacity”, since that statement Eutelsat 3C was indeed moved from 3 degrees east to 13 degrees east which is the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite position, Eutelsat 3C has now arrived at the 13 degrees east satellite position and is being renamed as Eutelsat Hotbird 13D as we speak, it will operate at the 13 degrees satellite position together with the existing and identical Hotbird satellites which are Eutelsat 13B and Eutelsat Hotbird 13C, and now that Eutesat 13D (3C) has arrived at 13 degrees east we can expect the frequencies and channels which are currently on the Eutelsat 13A satellite to be moved to Eutelsat 3C/13D in the very near future, Eutelsat 13A will then be moved to 8 degrees west and be renamed as Eutelsat 8 West B and will serve the Middle east and North African but getting back to the Eutelsat 13A satellite frequencies and channels being moved to Eutelsat 13D (3C) very soon, this satellite change couid posibly mean that viewers in remote edge of footprint areas of the current Eutelsat Hotbird 13A satellite beam may notice some changes in reception conditions when Eutelsat 13D takes over from Eutelsat 13A, some of the interesting free to air channels which are currently on Eutelsat 13A are “Thai Global Network”, “BBC World News”, “Rai’s 1, 2, and 3”, “ZDF”, “RTL CH”, “RTL 2 CH”, “ARTE France”, “TV 5 Monde”, and many of the English language news channels, following the very soon to come satellite changeover it will be very interesting to know if Eutelsat 13D is performing better or worse than Eutelsat 13A did in the very edges of the Eutelsat Hotbird signal reception area, “Rob’s Satellite TV” is read all over Europe but I also do know that there is a very large readership of “Rob’s Satellite TV” in other parts and continents of the world too and Eutelsat Hotbird satellite viewers in Pakistan are currently very interested in these developments as are some other countries in the near to Pakistan, as I said, it would be interesting to know the reception conditions for receiving this new 13D satellite at 13 degrees east, please do “Contact Me” with your reception reports or any news from any outlying Eutelsat Hotbird reception country, if enough of you e-mail me I will start a dedicated section on my forum for you all regarding the reception of Hotbird in far away places but also for all the other reception and news in and from these far away places   03/07/13 at 20.00 –

Some “3D” news for those of you with “3D” equipment is that from Tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday the “Wimbledon Tennis Tournament” will be shown live and in “3D” on the “8900” (BBC Red Button HD) channel, this will be presented as “Side by Side” coverage an will include the Womens Semi Finals and Final and the Mens Final, frequency details for “8900” (BBC Red Button HD) are 11.023 H, SR 23.000, FEC 2/3 DVB-S2 8PSK on the Astra satellite at 28.2 degrees east   03/07/13 at 20.00 –
Some “UEFA Champions League” news is that the said competition second round first leg match between Cliftonville and Celtic will be shown on “BBC 2 Northern Ireland” and on “BBC 2 Scotland”, the match is played on the 17th of July, 2013   03/07/13 at 20.00 –
The 21st/22nd of July apparently sees a new “Kix Power” channel replacing “Pop Girl+1” on the Eutelsat 28A satellite at 28.5 degrees east, apparently! The owners of these channels have been known to late starters so to speak! 11.307 V, SR 27.500, FEC 2/3 are the frequency details   03/07/13 at 20.00 –
Bad news for Eutelsat Hotbird Croatian viewers is that the “HRT” channels are moving to the 16 degrees east satellite position, they are leaving the 13 degrees east satellite position at the end of July, 2013   03/07/13 at 20.00 –
Can anyone explain to me why the UK’s “BBC” are currently broadcasting a free speech panel programme from “Magaluf” in “Majorca” when they are doing their level best to restrict reception of all “BBC” channels to the majority of Europe and that particular region! You don’t need to answer really!
    Update 03/07/13 at 19.30 –
    Another
Update regarding the encrypted Dutch “RTL” channels on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east frequency of 11.344 H, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4, recently “RTL 4” appeared simulcast on 12.515 H, SR 22.000, FEC 5/6, it has been and still is on 12.344 H, SR 27.000, FEC 3/4, the same has now happened with the “RTL 5”, “RTL 7”, and “RTL 8” channels, they are now also simulcast on 12.515 H, this is a probable frequency change for these channels and as is widely known that the Dutch “Canal+” subscription service has mostly moved to the Astra satellite at 23.5 degrees east then the possibility of 12.344 H being closed and the remaining Dutch channels that are on 12.344 H being either moved elsewhere at 19.2 degrees east or being moved to 23.5 degrees east and being discontinued at 19.2 degrees east immediately springs to mind, the remaining all encrypted Dutch channels on 12.344 H are “TLC”, “Discovery”, “Eurosport Dutch”, “Veronica/Disney HD”, there are also the Porn channels “Hustler” and “Dorcel TV” but these are already simulcast on 12.722 H, also there are two German channels “Animax” and “Planet” on 12.344 H but I am sure these will go elsewhere on 19.2 degrees east if 12.344 H is being closed but there is also the possibility that 12.344 H will be filled up with German channels once the Dutch have vacated it, but could these developments regarding 12.344 H also have something to do with the Belgian service “Mobistar” stopping it’s Digital TV service at the end of 2013 and instead as of the 15th of September, 2013 they will be offering their French speaking customers a link to “Telesat” and offering their Dutch speaking customers a link to “TV Vlaanderen”, Belgium is almost 95% cable so it seems that “Mobistar” were on a loser anyway, the cable and iptv company “Belgacom” is the main player in Belgium that is not really surprising seeing as they recently did not want to pay extra for the right to broadcast the German state channels “ARD” and “ZDF” and because of this refusal to pay extra “ARD” and “ZDF” are no longer available on “Belgacom” they are still available free to air on satellite and the satellite stores are packed to the rafters and selling out of their stock as we speak, most probably! I see that the Prince of Wales and his wife have been to visited the set of “Dr Who”, apparently he has been offered a part in “Dr Who”, I wonder if he is going to be the new “Doctor” and as this is “Dr Who” we are talking about there has just got to be a part going for his “Camilla”! LOL!

Update 02/07/13 at 21.30 - SES-Astra Satellite Happenings 3?? I will try and keep it simple but please bear in mind that this might be slightly confusing, I apologise in advance if it is difficult to follow but imagine what it is like to think up and write the bloody thing! LOL! There are lots of variables to follow. © Rob’s Satellite TV Following this now inevitable delay to the launch of “Astra 2E” I would not like to be in the shoes of “SES-Astra” right now considering the apparent urgency that an “Astra 2E” launch and in operation is really desired and required by them, but if I were in the shoes of “SES-Astra” what would the options now be, firstly you need some background information to help you through the maze of possibilities that I am about to take you through.© Rob’s Satellite TV The 28.2 degrees east satellite position of “SES-Astra” needs another satellite, currently positioned there are the following satellites, Astra 2A, Astra 2F, Astra 1N, and Astra 2D, the current status of all these satellites is that Astra 2A is in operation and will remain at 28.2 degrees east until after Astra 2G is launched in 2014, I am expecting Astra 2A transponders and frequencies to be moved to Astra 2G and then Astra 2A will be moved to another satellite position, most probably 23.5 or 31.5 degrees east, Astra 2F is to remain at 28.2 degrees east, this satellite has spare capacity and prior to today’s events my thinking was that Astra 2F was to take most of the Eutelsat 28.5 degrees east frequencies which “SES-Astra” have acquired for use from October the 3rd of 2013, you now see some of the urgency for “SES-Astra” but there is a dispute currently in progress between “SES-Astra” and “Eutelsat” over these frequencies and we the public are not party to the progress of the “Court of Arbitration” or what stage the discussions are at, anyway moving on, the Astra 1N satellite is currently in use but it is scheduled to move to the 19.2 degrees east satellite position following the launch and in operation of Astra 2E, and finally Astra 2D which is currently being used as  a back up/stand by satellite, so that’s 28.2 degrees east. © Rob’s Satellite TV The 19.2 degrees east satellite position of “SES-Astra” also needs another satellite, currently positioned there are the following satellites, Astra 1KR, Astra 1L, Astra 1M, and Astra 2C, also positioned very close by at 19.4 degrees east is the Astra 2B satellite which used to be at 28.2 degrees east, the current status of all these satellites is that Astra 1KR, Astra 1M, Astra 1L, and Astra 2C are all currently in operation, Astra 2B is not as yet in operation and is at 19.4 degrees east and it’s new purpose at this satellite position is to open up another “SES-Astra” satellite position to serve South Africa, I was expecting Astra 1L and Astra 2C to be cleared of their frequencies once Astra 1N arrived at 19.2 degrees east, Astra 1L was then to be used a a back up/stand by satellite at 19.2 degrees east and Astra 2C to be moved to 28.2 degrees east, so that’s 19.2 degrees east, and now to the numerous possibilities.© Rob’s Until Astra 2E is launched and in operation what temporary measures can “SES-Astra” make and take at the 28.2 and 19.2 degrees east satellite positions now that the Astra 2E launch is delayed, they need capacity and they also need back up at both satellite positions, I am outlining some of the possible solutions below and all of the solutions do not leave much back up/stand by cover for “SES-Astra” but they may be able to live with that for the short term solution 1) “SES-Astra” could just leave everything just the same as it currently is until Astra 2E’s eventual launch and in operation and following that just continue with their original designated plan of moving Astra 1N from 28.2 to 19.2 degrees east and moving Astra 2C from 19.2 to 28.2 degrees east, the capacity is ther at 28.2 degrees east to do that, my long held belief is that the reason that Astar 1N and not Astra 2F was given the Astra 2B frequencies was because “SES-Astra” have/had a long term alternative plan in the likely and now true event of an Astra 2E launch delay and/or problems, Astra 2F is and was kept as a back up solution to take the disputed “Eutelsat” frequencies, as I have said previously, we currently do not know whether it is “Eutelsat” or “SES-Astra” who gets the disputed frequencies if it is “Eutelsat” then there is nothing at all to worry about for “SES-Astra” but if it is “SES-Astra” they do sort of have the current 28.2 degrees east capacity for this, there is also Astra 2D as a sort of back up/stand by satellite but that would be very sparse for back up/stand by capacity, also excepting the “Eutelsat” frequencies please don’t expect any new frequency channel activations at 28.2 degrees east using this solution. 2) In the interim and before the 3rd of October of 2013 “SES-Astra” could reactivate Astra 2D at 28.2 degrees east to take the low band Astra 1N frequencies/channels and they could also put the high band Astar 1N frequencies/channels onto Astra 2F, this would release Astra 1N to move to 19.2 degrees east as originally planned and subsequently Astra 2C could be released to move to 28.2 degrees east also as originally planned, doing all this before the 3rd of October of 2013 would mean that Astra 2C would be in a position to either retake the Astra 1N high band frequencies from Astra 2F leaving Astra 2F free to take the “Eutelsat” frequencies or Astra 2C could be left empty to take the “Eutelsat” frequencies leaving Astra 2F with the Astra 1N highband frequencies that it took, the low band frequencies would remain on Astra 2D, this solution does not leave any room for back up/stand by capacity. © Rob’s Satellite TV 3) There is another more feasible solution, a satellite that used to be at the 19.2 degrees east satellite position but was only recently moved from there, Astra 1H is currently between 52 and 53 degrees east, it is currently serving no purpose other that it is in the very early stages process of opening up a new satellite position or supplementing an existing out of the way satellite position for “SES-Astra” but as a temporary solution why don’t “SES-Astra” bring Astra 1H to help out temporarily at 28.2 degrees east and while they are at it they could alsoutilise Astra 2B to help out temporarily at 19.2 degrees east, it is currently at 19.4 degrees east and if it won’t work at that position which I am thinking that it would but if not then it could be moved slightly from 19.4 to 19.2 degrees east, Astra 1H and Astra 2B would be ideal temporary solutions which would keep the “SES-Astra” master plan to it’s origianl master plan of moving Astra 1N from 28.2 to 19.2 degrees east and moving Astra 2C from 19.2 to 28.2 degrees east, it could be done and “SES-Astra” do have the time to now implement this solution. © Rob’s Satellite TV 4) “SES-Astra” could at the 19.2 degrees east satellite position see if they could share all of the Astra 2C frequencies/chanenls between Astra 1KR, Astra 1L, and Astra 1M which would then release Astra 2C to go to 28.2 degrees east to help out, failing that “SES-Astra” could utilise the Astra 2B satellite which is at 19.4 degrees east, it could remain there or could be moved slightly to 19.2 degrees east, Astra 2B could then take some of the Astra 2C frequencies/channels and the rest of Astra 2C frequencies/channels could be shared between the other Astra 1KR, Astra 1L, and Astra 1M satellites at the 19.2 degrees east satellite position, this would then release Astra 2C to be moved to 28.2 degrees east where it would remain, Astra 1N could then be moved to 19.2 degrees east, this solution would also sort of keep the original “SES-Astra” master plan sort of in it’s original state. © Rob’s Satellite TV 5) Those are the main possibilities that come to mind but there may be others too. © Rob’s Satellite TV So there we are, those are my theories as to what could and can be done to help “SES-Astra” to alleviate some of the problems that this Astra 2E delay has brought upon them during this difficult time, personally despite what Astra 2E and it’s beams will possibly mean for lots of you I must say that I actually feel quite sorry for “SES-Astra” at this time, they have had absolutely no luck whatsoever regarding Astra 2E, nothing at all has gone right at for them. That took some thinking and writing so I do hope that it was all worth it and that it is a pleasant and enlightening read for you all. “Rob’s Satellite TV” giving you the whole picture in and with colour, you always get the full and complete picture from “Rob’s”, you know it makes sense and really there is nowhere quite like “Rob’s”!

    Update 02/07/13 at 18.30 –
This from “ILS” (International Launch Services) regarding the launch catastrophe this morning, “The launch of the Proton M/Block DM-03 mission with three Glonass navigational satellites for the Russian Federal Government resulted in a failure today.  About ten seconds after lift-off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 8:38 am local time, the rocket veered off of its flight path and returned to earth” and “The impact occurred in a safe area that was evacuated for the launch and all personnel are reported to be unharmed. From early reports, there was no damage to either launch Pad 39 or 24, near the impact area; there is only minor damage to nearby buildings”, this quoted “Pad 39” is significant because “Pad 39” is or possibly now was where “Astra 2E” was to be launched from, there will now be investigations by the “Russian Space Agency and also by “ILS”, the latter of which will be sure to be including some “SES-Astra” personnel

    Update 02/07/13 at 10.00 –
The “Astra 2E” satellite launch will be delayed following this morning’s “Proton-M” rocket launch crash at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, according to a source “There will be no launches from Baikonur for about two to three months”, this is very bad news for “SES-Astra” who do have a “master plan” for the 28.2 and 19.2 degrees east satellite positions and they really could have done without any further delays or problems regarding the launch of “Astra 2E”, this is not good, for more on this morning’s crash please see HERE
    Update 02/07/13 at 08.00 –
Oh dear and there will  now be a delay! This is very much “Astra 2E” related, this morning there was a “Proton-M” rocket launch carrying “Glonass” satellites from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the problem is that this satellite launch crashed shortly after lift off, this now means an investigation and there will be a delay on all future launches from Baikonur, this now crashed launch would have been the last launch from Baikonur before the expected “Astra 2E” launch,, the “Proton-M” rocket which is what “Astra 2E” will also be launched on was the problem this morning so they are going to have to find out what caused this rocket failure, the “Astra 2E” launch will now inevitibly be delayed, I will have more on this later

    Update 01/07/13 at 21.00 –
Some general “Astra 2E” information from “SES-Astra”, the “Astra 2E” satellite will be launched on board an ILS Proton Breeze M booster from pad 39 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Sunday 21 July, 2013, I have already previously said that this will be an evening of Saturday the 20th of July, 2013 launch in the UK and Central Europe with the scheduled launch time of the “Astra 2E” satellite at 2243 and 57 seconds UK time, 2343 and 57 seconds Central European time, 2143 and 57 seconds GMT/UTC (Universal Coordinated Time), further informations are that “Astra 2E” has 60 Ku-band transponders and 3 wideband Ka-band transponders, it will serve to deliver next generation broadcast, VSAT and broadband services in Europe, the Middle East and Africa at the prime orbital location of 28.2* East, and it has a launch mass of 6020 kg and it has a life expectancy of 15 plus years, you really wanted to know that didn’t you!   01/07/13 at 18.30 –
I hope that you are all liking the “Astra 2E” satellite launch countdown clocks! LOL!

    Update 01/07/13 at 18.00 –
And talking of Iranian channels (see below), “IFilm English” has been been removed from the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east, this is in tandem with other Iranian channel removals, it was broadcasting on 11.727 V, some good news is that another channel has started broadcasting on the same satellite, “I1” is a channel similar or same in content as “IFilm English” was, English language audio with programming of Middle Eastern origins, frequency is 11.565 H, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4, sorry but I know no more about this channel
    Update 01/07/13 at 18.00 –
What is not a surprise and I have alluded to it happening again previously is the removal again of “Press TV” and the other Iranian state channel from 12.015 H on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east, they have also been removed from the Intelsat satellites, can we hope that the Intelsat satellites is where Eutelsat were getting their feed from and maybe it is only short term, we can think that and it could be that but it could also probably not be that! I have said enough on this subject many times previously, see my posting of 27/06 at 20.00 for more   01/07/13 at 17.00 –
Africa’s “Arise News” which is already available on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east frequency of 11.623 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 as “Arise TV” is now also available from this same satellite on 11.117 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 as “Arise News”, it is exactly the same channel on both frequencies, “Arise News” is also available on the Eutelsat 28A satellite at 28.5 degrees east in SD and HD if this satellite is preferable to you

The channel named/numbered as “55211” on 11.343 V, SR 27.500, FEC 2/3 on the Eutelsat 28A satellite at 28.5 degrees east has now been officially launched and named as “News 18 India”, this channel is an English language news channel for India and it has also appeared on the UK “Sky” receivers channel list at number 573

    01/07/13 at 17.00 –
Polish channel “TVR” which is already on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east in SD has now started broadcasting in HD too,”TVR HD” is free to air on 10.911 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 DVB-S2 8PSK, the long time “TVR SD” is still broadcasting on 11.200 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4 on the same satellite, both of these channels are free to air

There are some frequency changes and new channels have been activated on the German encrypted subscription service “Sky Deutschland” on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east, I am not going into detail with this one because it is of limited interest but you are now aware if it affects you

    01/07/13 at 17.00 –
There are some developments on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees east frequency of 11.243 H, SR 22.000, FEC 5/6, two new “Lokal Eins” and “Lokal Zwei” channel names have appeared, I wonder if this has something to do with the very long awaited “Volks TV” local television master feed with local opt outs optional type service for the city and state private local television channels in Germany, possibly and these are free to air channels

“Adam Crozier” who is the head of the UK’s “ITV” apparently believes that there are other potential channels the network can do and that a new channel could work under the current free-to-watch model or by introducing a premium service, mmmm, why am I getting a feeling of dejavu here, me thinks we have been here before and you are damn right that we have been here before, we all remember the debacle of the last time that “ITV” tried pay tv but let’s just for a moment mull over the options of “ITV” regarding this latest information (sic!), they already have “CITV” so no go on the children, they could try “ITV  Reality” but that is basically what 2ITV 2″ basically is, they could try “ITV Gold” but that is what “ITV 3” and “ITV 4” basically are, they could try “ITV Movies” and broadcast endless repeats of the endlessly repeated already films by and on the “ITV” channels, they could even call it “ITV Back to the Escape to Victory in the Future”!, they could even try a dedicated “Inspector Morse” and “A Touch of Frost” type channel, yet again, endlessly repeated but just about the only option left for “ITV”, so not many options left, I do hope that “Adam Crozier” is not thinking of an “ITV Sport” channel after what happened the last time that “ITV” had a dedicated sports channel, maybe he is, after all his previous work experience was of head of English Football’s “Football Association”, mind you he also was head of the UK’s postal service the “Royal Mail” so maybe he is thinking of an “ITV Postman Pat” channel too! Whilst I do very much welcome any new free to air channel I most certainly would not pay for any subscription channel that “ITV” would create, I very rarely watch “ITV” anyway! Do we await further developments or do we not?! LOL!

The “50880” testing channel on 11.623 H, SR 27.500, FEC 2/3 on the Eutelsat 28A satellite at 28.5 degrees east which is broadcasting the UK channel “Watch” has now been named as “Watch”, as I post this news this channel is encrypted and it is still available free to view with a UK “Sky” viewing card and receiver and the “Watch” channel on the Sky receiver channel list has not yet been switched over to this “new” frequency, sky receivers are still being directed to the “Watch” on 11.817 V and not 11.623 H, all of the above could of course be changed tomorrow and this frequency change could be the owners of “Watch” and many other “UKTV” channels making room for another channel on 11.817 V   27/06/13 at 21.00 –

The following I have posted a long time ago and because of recent free to air developments and the impending launch of the “Astra 2E” satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan this is again very relevant news, recently the “RTG TV” channel which is the “Russian travel Guide” channel which is usually encrypted went free to air and I am hoping that this channel remains free to air during this Saturday the 29th of July for you all because again this channel is showing a 45 minute programme called the “Tour of the Baikonur Cosmodrome”, I have already seen this programme the last time I told you all about it along time ago, the programme blurb is “Many tourists dream of visiting a real space center ……….” an so on “und weiter!”, the very interesting and very topical for us “Tour of the Baikonur Cosmodrome” is broadcast as I said this Saturday at 0000 UK time/0100 European time and also at 1400 UK time/1500 European timeRTG TV” (Russian Travel Guide) broadcasts free to air currently on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees east frequency of 11.623 V, SR 27.500, FEC 3/4, Unfortunately “RTG TV” is not broadcast from the 28.2/28.5 degrees east satellite position, please don’t forget the “link” when using this information elsewhere

A Japanese pensioner is suing Japan’s state broadcaster “NHK” for emotional distress, apparently “NHK” is overusing foreign words instead of the original Japanese words, Japan is becoming too Americanised is the mantra, more very interesting reading on this can be found HERE

The new free to air channel from the “ProSiebenSat.1 Group” called “ProSieben MAXX” which is slated for launch in September of 2013 according to German reports is looking to broadcast some original American television series in the original English language with in vision German language subtitles, this does remind me of “Sixx” when it first launched and if “ProSieben MAXX” did go down this route for some programming it would be most welcome indeed, very much welcomed

    Update 27/06/13 at 20.00 –
    An
Update on the ongoing “Press TV” (and other Iranian channels) removals by Western Governments from satellite broadcasting basically because it is Iran, latest news is that the satellite operator “Intelsat” is to remove all Iranian channels which includes the English language news channel “Press TV” from it’s satellites from the 1st of July, 2013, this comes after last year’s removal of “Press TV” from the Astra satellites and the attempted removal from the “Eutelsat” satellites, “Press TV” and the other Iranian channels were removed and later reinstated on the “Eutelsat” satellites but in light of this latest “Intelsat” development how long will it be before “Press TV” e.t.c. are again removed from the “Eutelsat” satellites, there will come a time and it will be very soon I think that “Press TV” e.t.c. will only be available on the Russian owned satellites but teh problem with these Russian satellites is that their broadcast coverage beams do not reach Western Europe very well, now being a publisher of information this is a very fine line that I tread regarding what I write in this age of the so called “war against terror” so I must make it clear that I am neither for or against Iran (or any other country for that matter) but what I am for is free speech and access to that free speech, we are all intelligent enough to be able to differentiate between out and out propaganda or simply giving your version of events and I have said it before and I will say it again, from what I have observed of “Press TV” it is simply just a news channel with a specific agenda to provide news from an Iranian viewpoint, this is exactly the same as the “Russia Today” channel provides news from a Russian viewpoint, “Sky News” provides news from a Great Britain viewpoint, “CNN” provides news from an American viewpoint, and the best or more specifically one the worst news (sic!) channels that is allowed to remain on air is the propaganda channel (sorry machine!) that is “Fox News”, as China recently said after the USA shouted it’s mouth off in it’s usual hawkish way regarding the “Edward Snowden” situation, China said that America should get it’s own house in order before bulldozing into other people’s houses, well it was something akin to that that was said but it is so true, we in the West are supposed to be a Democracy, this is yet another example (as if we did not have enough examples already) of the so called Western Governments Democracy, the ordinary man and woman know what is going on and it is clear to us that the wheels are turning and Western Governments are now seemingly nothing more than Little Hitler Dictator! Did I go to far?! Free Speech!

There have recently been some frequency changes to some channels at the Astra 28.2 degrees east satellite position which would affect viewers/readers in the outer areas of Europe whose UK beam signals are not receivable but whose European beam signal are receivable for the better for once, the encrypted HD versions of “Animal Planet”, “Dave”, “Alibi”, “E!”, “TCM”, and “TLC” are now on the European beam so if you like these channels then good news for you if you could not receive them before   27/06/13 at 11.00 –
Some very interesting reading about satellite rocket launchers and the future of said launchers was sent to me last week by one of my members, it mainly concerns the future of “Astrium” and their “Ariane” satellite rocket launchers but there is also some content about the other competing satellite rocket launchers comapnies, it really does make for some interesting reading and you can read it HERE

    Update 27/06/13 at 11.00 –
I am sure that you all remember the “ITV” channel losses that happened on the evening of the 4th of June that was apparently caused by a problem (sic!) at the “Arqiva” uplinking station, following this outage and the subsequent return of the “ITV” channels one of my members noticed that the time sent on the “ITV Central East” channel was showing a minus four minutes time to what was the correct time and the correct time was in fact showing on all the channels, only “ITV Central East” (and quite possibly the other channels on the same frequency) was affected, now as my trusted friend says, this time difference could have had dire consequences for anyone who has timer recordings set for that particular channel so he e-mailed “ITV” and as much as we all give “ITV” a hard time over the original (sic!) way they do everything regarding their satellite operations but they actually get some plus points from us for their response and the actions that were taken to remedy the problem and it was all done withing a day of receiving the original e-mail and I quote “I contacted the appropriate technical team and the timers were reset and checked”, so it does pay you to contact “ITV” if you are aware of “ITV” specific problems that they should know about, they do know what they are doing after all, now if they could only pass that know what they are doingness to the department that deals with actual “ITV” (and “STV” and “UTV”) channel launches then we and they would be much better off!
