Hi Gerry, thanks for your reply.
I think this forum is the perfect place for a topic like this, it’s a part of ex-pat live now.
Any option to get UK TV back if it is not possible anymore to use a dish will help everybody a lot.
The Infomir MAG250 is a very basic set-top box but …… it works, so no bad comment on this, slow processor etc. etc.
Providers is another story. Years ago before (and still today) the house prices trouble every ex-pat was a real estate agent or Sky TV installer, you see the same now with IPTV providers (many are only re sellers, the end of this story …………… it will settle in the coming months/years, many will disappear and leave trouble behind, not good for the IPTV industry but this cannot be avoided.
Good luck with your search and keep the board informed, if you need more info contact be outside this board, our advert is on the right.11/02/2014 at 5:36 pm #4936
iptv as you are a providre , is there any box where one can connect it up to the modem, and tv and then just get the free to air channels. most people i know who live on the costa all year round are pensioners and they cannot afford to pay for the internet and then a monthly/yearly subscription for tv which up yo now they got for free after the initial layout, box/dish etc. i look forward to your answer and so do a lot of friends of mine over there, numbering about 75.11/02/2014 at 5:52 pm #4942
Dear Peter, I am very sorry but the FREE time is over, at least for people without an IT background. There are some ways to receive UK TV free but if you want a “normal” and “good old fashion” TV experience, the only way is an IPTV set-top service and this is not free. Be very careful with FREE services advertised, in the end it is not free and you never get the same experience, I mean sit down on the sofa with the lady and use your remote to change channels like before. If you need more info contact me outside this board direct, I try to avoid free publicity 🙂 our advert is on the right of the screen, 2 companies specialized in IPTV , I advise you to contact them both.11/02/2014 at 6:28 pm #4956
We have justed linked into the Urbs digital system. We have bbc and itv . Channel five is missing< but always was on the urbs system. Not sure of the dish size they use but its about 2mts. our receiver is Technisat diget K3. Not HD but picture quality is good. So we can get the new satellite but need a bigger dish. I am happy now.

iptv,, what would one need an it background for . is it for putting a vpn into the iptv box, i thought one could buy them with the free to air channels loaded into them. i have a laptop in spain and i know i will have to get the internet into the apt. a tv guy told me last november that he would be able to take my freesat humax with a hard drive its the 320 one, and for a fee do something to it. he said i would be then able to use as we did up to the change. do you know anything about this arrangement.13/02/2014 at 9:53 am #5173
iptv,,, do you know anything about the man in the tv shop said he would do to my freesat ,hd,receiver. he said for a fee (dont know how much) i would be able to use it like i always did . all i would need was the internet. i am going over in 2 weeks and i am wondering what to do.13/02/2014 at 5:26 pm #5237
I am new to the site, I am in Alhaurin El Grande, Malaga,
I too lost all signals like everyone, and also only get channel BBC RB 2 ( 978) 977 does not work..
I too dont know what to do next, but, after much research, I am going to try the apple tv box, cost 112€ i believe, and a new version expected out soon aswell (early 2014) you need a good wifi signal though..
currently having ipad i follow my favourites through my ipad, which can be hooked up to the TV, in the apple app store is filmonlive and you can download for free and watch all the BBC, ITV, C4 C5 and loads more, I only get 2mb wifi and its proving abit slow and the film on freezes sometimes, but My son just got mowitel wifi, 10mb for 29.90€ month includes IVA and no contract, he paid 90€ installation.. he said its excellent, so I will give that a go, they speak english too, they also do 15mb up, i havent read a bad word yet about apple tv box, so i may try that soon..
i am no expert, far from it, just sharing abit of info that may help others.13/02/2014 at 8:04 pm #5254
I spent about 2 hours up on the roof on Sunday tweaking away and trying different Feedhorns and it was all to no avail. Basically I gave it all up as a bad job. I’ve just rescanned all the channels and now much to my surprise find I am receiving all the BBC SD channels and even BBC 1 Scotland HD. Has something changed with the footprint? Or is it because the wind has died down a bit and the dish isn’t wiggling around so much?
In the meantime I’ve been playing around with the iplayer add-on for XBMC on a HTPC connected to a TV with Unblock-US and it works amazingly well for catch-up. YOu can watch in HD with remote control. Doesn’t work for live streams though but maybe the Foxsat will do for that after all.14/02/2014 at 9:24 am #5278
jaynee,,, on another forum i read that reception was recieved with a 1,8 mt dish, somewhere near fuengirola, and that a few hundred yards away it could not be recieved with a 3 mt dish. the guy that wrote it is in the tv and sat business. his words were it is location specific.14/02/2014 at 9:59 am #5280
thanks for reply, i am actually moving in two weeks, only down the road, but the new villa has no dish, and i cant see the point in even trying now, sky in madrid news section is fantastic ..
it gives you updated news everyday about Sky etc, the signals, where and where not it doesn’t work. why..
what puzzled me, it mentioned a few days ago, that irish Sky cards have worked ?? Ugh as they get signal from Astra 2A,
I know people in Mijas, Fuengy, and all around all have lost the lot, i pay a UK sky subscription, and use cars here, what remains is everything else but not the channels we favour the most, so I feel a cancellation coming on..
I may try this apple TV when we move and forget Sky, seems on sky Madrid they purposely made the beam run low to keep Europe out ( charming) so if thats the attitude I will use something else, but… at the same time dont want ripping off either.. I may try apple tv box or buy a mag 250 iptv box off ebay or amazon and just pay a few euros for netflix and run filmon theougj TV and watch all our faves for free14/02/2014 at 12:54 pm #5288
my earlier response didnt show ..
Peter, this is a good link if you want news and up to date i for on sky for spain and europe..
i read on one of their updates that some irish Sky cards are working ? they say if i read correctly that sky in ireland beams from astra 2A …
I am moving in couple of weeks only down the road, the villa has no dish so I dont think I will bother putting ours up, may try the apple tv box, get a faster wifi, and hook up ipad/iphone to tv and watch my faves..
or… the Mag250 Iptv box, they are on ebay and amazon, maybe just pay a few euros and live with netflix..
i still pay UK sky for my UK card, and i get all the other channels except the ones we lost, so may aswell cancel it, i read on the link above that astra 2E seem to be using a low beam to keep europe out from the BBC and ITV, ( Charming)17/02/2014 at 9:25 am #5425
How about a few more pins in the 2e reception map for Spain! I am feeling very lonley up here in the NW! Asturias I know there are more of you out there and I really need your reports so I can figure out what size dish to get 🙂
Tom17/02/2014 at 11:50 am #5448
Tom you may feel lonely but at least there are a couple of pins in your area, if you look in the malaga area the nearest is jaen and murcia ,, hundred of kms away. Jaynee a friend of mine in fuengirola has just been on to me, he went to the apple shop in la canada near marbella and bought an apple tv box, as he already has an apple i pad he has hooked them up to his tv and he is getting a great reception. because they are two apple products he had no need to use cables through filmon.17/02/2014 at 12:00 pm #5450
Not sure we are looking at the same map! up here in Asturias I can see only 1 pin and that is meeeeeee 🙁
Not sure if I want to go the internet route till I have at least tried another dish size,
I am in the market for a secondhand 1.8/1.9 dish! anyone?

From Adeje, Tenerife -system re-tuned by Premiere and all UK Channels back ! Channel5 suite a little pixelation just now 19:00 hrs.
Couple of extras given to us – ITV Border and ITV+1 .
Apparently our community dish is 2.6 m not 3.2 as previously thought .18/02/2014 at 5:25 pm #5597
I’m in Marbella and noticed last night that I have ITV2,3 & 4 all in HD. As mentioned elsewhere, Channel 4 Irish as well.
Could it be that ITV1 will return as well?
If not I’ve got the xbmc player working nicely on the PC

paul,, i cannot find a section for this enquiry , but i hope someone can answer it. i have been looking at a big satellite tv companies website on the costa del sol. on it in a red notice they state that iptv cannot be got with tooway or any satellite internet company it has to be adsl. i would like to know if that is true. i wont mention the name of the company unless i get permission to do so.20/02/2014 at 5:22 pm #5696
Peter, I think that you will find that this is to do with latency, If you do a Ping Test (IE search will throw up several to pick from) From my recent dealings with IPTV providers some of them were keen to know my “Ping” readings and stated that it needed to be below 100. With satellite internet I do not think you will achieve this. That is why internet phone calls by satellite can be full of echoes and voice lag. I am a novice at this and if I am wrong someone will put me right. Hope this helps a bit, hoping IPTV reads this and joins in.20/02/2014 at 7:11 pm #5700
Yeah thats spot on Gerry.21/02/2014 at 11:14 am #5717
Are they just toying with me!! this morning the Beeb is back! a low signal and little bit pixilated but there nevertheless! Will it last?
