    Hi there,
I just tried to watch something on filmon.com and it turns out, they now only let you watch 45 seconds before you’re redirected to another window, where you have to choose a subscription. It still also offers the free SD service here, but choosing that, you’re just going back to where you came from and get another 45 seconds (after you have chosen a UK channel). It doesn’t say anywhere, that they have introduced this restriction and apparently there is no restriction for German channels, so, given my location, I assume, that’s a license fee issue.

I think you must have a ‘local’ issue. Working fine here…

Matilda, maybe this is your problem (quote from Filmon on their Facebook page): “we just switched our default quality to HD instead of the free SD. So all you have to do is switch to SD on top, as shown in this picture: http://i.imgur.com/Ve2w5Rj.png The 45 second timer at the bottom will disappear then and you can watch without interruptions. If you need more help, please email support@filmon.com Thanks!”
    Cheers, Derek.

That sounds like the issue with the ‘App’ versions..

Please note: you can watch the HD Version sub free via the ‘Filmon TV’ (FTV) or ‘notFilmon’ addons in XBMC.

Oh thank god, Derek, you are right. Thanks for pointing that out! Why would I look in the upper right corner of the player… I actually wondered, how they would make such a major change without any official announcement somewhere. So that’s just a way to trick the stupid and inattentive viewers like me into buying subscriptions…?

At the moment I just need it on the old laptop when I’m doing stuff in the kitchen, so I can’t be bothered putting a sat cable across the flat and buying all the extra gear. But as I insist in always having a running tv near me as soon as it’s dark outside, I surely will have some proper installation in the kitchen one day.

Montgolfiere, I just notice, I’ve never heard of XBMC, but a quick look at wikipedia makes it a very interesting thing to have a closer look at. So far I was happy with VLC for all kinds of things, but XBMC/Kodi seems to go quite a bit further. Thanks for mentioning it.
