I replaced this Foxsat HD with a Humax HDR1000S last year. I kept it thinking my daughter might need it for her new house but she has decided to go with a different system. It was working perfectly when I stopped using it, so I am reluctant to put it in the rubbish. It was new in 2009, being a warranty replacement for the late 2008 one which died soon after buying. It is free to any forum member who wants it. I would just ask for whatever the postage costs from or within France. I would use EnvoiMoinsCher, whose prices are very reasonable.22/07/2015 at 10:17 am #15228
Hi Wilson, I’m extremely interested in your generous offer. I’ll send you a PM with my details. Cheers, Derek.22/07/2015 at 10:19 am #15230
A very good box…with a very excellent tuner…….slightly better sensitivity on weak channels…..than the Foxsat HDR…..
I would keep it as a spare…..
Edit…………..Derek…..that box is the single tuner version  and sadly can’t connect to a external hard drive …….The Humax Foxsat HDR is the one with twin tuners and hard drive…….22/07/2015 at 10:23 am #15234
Damn, just missed that one.
It would have been nice to have HD here. Oh well…22/07/2015 at 10:38 am #15239
Sorry guys, first come, first served and Derek is the lucky winner.22/07/2015 at 10:39 am #15241
Wilson and Gary, maybe I was a little hasty and greedy (in my usual ignorance). As Steve points out, with no hard drive connection, the 7 day EPG would offer me no advantage over my existing Humax, which is nevertheless HD and connected to a hard drive. For Gary, the advantage would be to have HD so I would be happy to let him take first place in the queue!!
So Wilson, thanks again but please ignore my PM and Steve, thanks as usual for the info 🙂22/07/2015 at 10:47 am #15243
Thanks for the offer but in all honesty I was half joking.
I don’t think reception of the HD channels would be reliable enough here and if we really wanted HD, we could always buy a brand new Humax PVR box since my better half is still working back in the UK.
So please Derek take it, as Wilson said, first come first served… 🙂22/07/2015 at 11:40 am #15245
OK, I can use it to replace my old SD receiver which is installed in the ex kids “appartment”, now used for guests – or maybe I use it as my main receiver, depending the sensitivity compared with my existing Humax. So Wilson, let’s do it (unless a more deserving case comes forward). It will give me the experience with some different gear and, if subsequently I find that I am not getting good use from it, I’ll put it back on offer on the forum with the same conditions. Sorry for messing you around!!!22/07/2015 at 12:11 pm #15247
Its a good little box…..7day epg….auto region channel organisation (via a UK postcode of your choice )….and updates …..with twin scart ,hdmi , component!!!..and composite video outputs ..and RCA and optical audio outputs……
Also via the secret (in non freesat mode) ..can also do Diseqc switching for multi sat  connections……
If Derek changes his mind……(Again) .. 🙂 ….
I’ll have it for my camper van…………If no one else wants it…….23/07/2015 at 1:15 pm #15274
Derek……I forgot to mention…….If you connect  your new Humax foxsat  box to  your internet router…….You will also get ITV player……..23/07/2015 at 3:51 pm #15279
Reply to PM sent.23/07/2015 at 6:25 pm #15284
Wilson, have replied to your PM. Cheers, Derek.
Steve, thanks for the additional info on the Foxsat 🙂29/07/2015 at 9:36 am #15488
Wilson, box arrived today at 11am, looks to be all intact. Experiments start after lunch!! Thanks again 🙂29/07/2015 at 10:03 am #15490
It was working when it went in the cupboard but we have these Provençal gremlins who crawl out of the woodwork and tamper with electronic stuff, when I am away over the winter. If it has died while in the cupboard, tell me and I will refund postage.
Wilson29/07/2015 at 10:46 am #15495
Wilson, no way would I accept a refund!! You made a generous offer and I was prepared to risk a measly 20 Euro to take advantage of it. If it’s died, that’s life 🙁29/07/2015 at 1:47 pm #15501
Wilson, box is alive and well 🙂 , all Freesat channels loud and clear. Either this box is more sensitive than my current receiver on weak channels (Steve’s observation) or it’s S/Q meter is just highly optimistic!! My weak channel ITVHD is currently showing 70/80 on the Italian Humax whilst the “new” Foxsat HD is showing 100/90. Will have to wait for a rain storm or get out the wet towel to have a better comparison of relative performances. Next job is to find out how to set the Diseqc switch to add 13° and 19° channels…..29/07/2015 at 4:12 pm #15505
Derek…….for the secret menu…..Press …….
Freesat tune then press
Then the Antenna settings for multi sat setup will be visible…….
Ive done Diseqc 19,2 and 28,2 on a Humax foxsat ….. your 3 positions should be ok…….
After all scanned in……you access the 19,2and 13 Â channels via non freesat mode
The mighty Humax  Foxsat seems already nicely warmed up……… 90-100Q on ITVHD!!!!!….you lucky git…….ITV HD  long gone here…. not a sniff….not even a 1 % Q 🙁29/07/2015 at 6:30 pm #15509
Hi Steve, I tried all afternoon to tune to 28,2 and 19,2, without success 🙁 . I first scanned 28,2 on Diseqc B and had all Freesat channels. Then scanned 19,2 on Diseqc A. Afterwards, I had German channels but couldn’t find 28,2 channels – hidden or cancelled??? Then scanned 28,2 again but this time 19,2 disappeared. Any tips for a tekky twerp????
PS decided there’s no sense in connecting to 13° as Foxsat has no slot fot the Italian Tivusat card, so it’s terrestial in the unlikely event that I watch Italian TV!!29/07/2015 at 6:50 pm #15511
Yes….I did think this problem might happen…….
You must..and thats a BIG must..!…… have 28,2 on output 1 on your diseqc switch……the other 19 and 13 on ports/outputs 2 or 3…………
(so in freesat mode …the box gets a signal with no diseqc involvement)…..thats the best way i can describe ….what I’m trying to say
From memory ……..i think mentioned the importance of having 28,2 on switch output 1……. years ago…..when you got your new diseqc switches…….29/07/2015 at 7:03 pm #15513
Thanks Steve, will give it a try. I remember your comment – I believe it related to a sketch I posted showing the connection of 2 LNBs to 2 diseqcs. I had one feed from the 28,2 LNB going to input one on the first diseqc but input two on the second and you rapped my knuckles!!29/07/2015 at 7:22 pm #15515
yes maybe……….I can’t remember the details……
the easiest option might just  be…..to run a new direct coax cable from your Opticum Quad LNB on 28,2 to the Foxsat ……(if you have a spare output that is)..?
as a bonus…..that would also  give you more viewing and / or  recording options from your original humax  box ..?………..29/07/2015 at 8:04 pm #15517
Steve, diseqc problem solved without changing inputs (19,2 remains on A, 28,2 on B). The problem was simply my ignorance of how to switch between Freesat and Non-Freesat modes – having now found the solution (STB Mode in Settings menu) everything is OK!!
At the moment, I’ve installed the Foxsat upstairs in place of my old SD receiver (didn’t want to mess with my living room setup till I’d sorted the new toy). I will decide later which of the two STBs I will use as the living room box once I’ve had a chance to compare performances, especially in poor-reception conditions.
Thanks again for your help 🙂30/07/2015 at 8:01 am #15522
I don’t understand how that Diseqc arrangement would work in Freesat mode………but if it works …it works…..I suppose…….
Maybe its just A Sky box (no Diseqc )…would have to be… on output A …..
I might have a little test with my switches and the Foxsat  later…….30/07/2015 at 9:30 am #15526
Ok…..I swapped the connections on my Diseqc switch to 19,2 on A port and 28,2 on B port…….
and got no signal from the freesat box……..
Then i did a factory reset……
…..Now i understand how it works 🙂 …..on first initial setup…the Humax foxsat detects the Diseqc switch and what port freesat 28,2 is on…then  allocates freesat 28,2 to port B……. clever stuff from Humax……30/07/2015 at 9:42 am #15529
Steve, it works, and strangely enough I found this page on Internet which shows an example where 28,2 is connected to diseqc input “C” : http://www.astra2sat.com/freesat/diseqc-settings-on-freesat/ – I assume that who wrote the piece actually did what he wrote and it worked!!!
BTW, if you want an STB for the camper van, I now have a spare! OK, it’s about 10 years old, SD only, connection to the TV only by SCART and manual in Italian. On the plus side it has a CI slot and diseqc 1.2/USALS capability. It could be ideal for a camper/caravan, holiday home or spare bedroom where HD is not important (or even difficult to receive!!).
