Yesterday the Sky signal on 12.285 V 27.5 2/3 DVBS QPSK vanished. I suspect the new Astra satellite has been activated. Anybody aware of what changes Sky have implemented and know of an alternative frequency?

Hi Mick, Sky changes are nothing to do with Astra 2G which is not yet in commercial service (expected June) and is presently in a temporary orbit at 21°E. Yesterday, Lily in Crete made a similar enquiry, except that in her case she had noted ADDITIONAL Sky channels appearing.
Sorry I can’t explain what is happening. Personally, I don’t follow Sky antics as I am allergic to Mr Murdoch…!!!

It is nothing to do with Sky. (People always seem to blame them when things go wrong!)

It is part of SES satellite replacement at 28 east – that has been going on for the past couple of years!

SES moved the channels from the ageing 2A to the newer 2E and 2F European beams.

So channel that you could receive on 2As south beam, you may struggle to get now they are on 2E and 2fs European beam as your dish may now be too small to receive those beams… no alternate frequencies to help receive those channels, the frequencies are the same, the beams are not.

Thanks for the explanation John – don’t think I was blaming Sky, I was just declaring my ignorance and disinterest of anything to do with their broadcasts..!!

2a now switched off bigger dishes in cyprus might be the answer  I don’t know really
