BBC managment anounced that it will shutdown terestrial and satellite tv channels BBC Four and CBBC in an effort to make more digital content and save money. More than 1000 people will lose jobs. I for one will miss good documeatary shows about nature science history and geography. And repeats of classic UK sitcoms and classic American films.
09/06/2022 at 12:32 am #177460I agree magmax…documentaries without annoying commercial interruptions were always one of the great things about BBC 4 We can only hope BBC1 or 2 will start showing them…and lose some of the idiot shows on them!
One thing I have noticed is the BBC is using time between programs to promote shows..which is okay, but I am wondering if they are considering using commercial content eventually…and preparing us for that!

09/06/2022 at 11:56 pm #177479well the news is more that BBC4 TV isn’t being shut down..only the over the air broadcasting..they are aiming at making online only
”BBC announces raft of closures with CBBC and BBC Four to be online only. CBBC, BBC Four and Radio 4 Extra will shut down and become online-only services, the corporation has said, as part of plans to close television and radio channels in order to focus on streaming services.”
Not sure what that means as far as access is concerned,..but probably like BBC iPlayer it will be impossible to connect to outside of UK, even using a VPN..as BBC blocks most of those now.
It probably makes it illegal to re-stream it as it isn’t an over the air signal any more

11/06/2022 at 11:01 am #177493I was right BBC4 will become part of iPlayer..so that makes it only for UK…and despite all the guff about VPNs..BBC now has software that detects and blocks most of them

12/06/2022 at 4:40 pm #177538the free vpn from btv works very well with all the uk tv stations that you can get online poshrat. I use it all the time when needed with out any problems.
12/06/2022 at 5:52 pm #177540Thanks for that piece of info ravo! I found that using a VPN over here slows my already pathetic connection to point of being useless, and it also overrides my ad blockers so I get pestered with ‘games and casino ads’..NONE of which I would ever download!
